Private/Semi-Private Pools - How to Score a Room with One
While the purpose of this website is to encourage people to travel, another purpose is to also encourage individuals to take it a step further from time to time and treat yourself to something special. You deserve it!
One of the special things I enjoy when I travel, is reserving a room with a private/semi-private pool. This is something I’ve being doing for quite a while, however, because of the known presence of COVID-19 a private/semi-private pool has become a necessity for me.
What is the difference between a private pool and a semi-private pool?
Private Pool:
A separate pool situated in a way where only the occupants residing in the room attached to the pool are able to access it.
Semi-Private Pool:
A smaller pool that is attached to a room that flows out to a larger pool. Typically the larger pool is associated to a group or block of rooms.
** One thing to note, most hotels and resorts will not allow a family to reserve or stay in a room that has a private pool if you have kids below a specific age (younger kids). This rule has been implemented for security reasons.
I always recommend that individuals look at the accommodation tab on any hotel or resort website that is being considered. It is there you will be able to review all of your options.
Rooms with pool options differ from hotel/resort to hotel/resort. I’ve actually booked a room with a pool layout that I didn’t prefer and if I ever returned to that resort, I would never reserve a room with a private/semi-private pool.
Things to Consider When Booking a Room With a Private/Semi-Private Pool:
- What pool types are offered?
- Are the pools fully private or semi-private?
- What size are the pools? Some hotels/resorts advertise private pools but in actuality they are plunge pools (what I describe as an enlarged hot tub).
- Are the pools heated? While in the summer time you might want to feel cool refreshing water, during cooler months you might prefer a heated pool.
- How are the pools maintained? Typically travel reviews are a good source for answers.
Perks:
- You have access to a pool at all times. Generally hotel pools by law have to close by a certain time. Your private pool does not have the same restrictions.
- Less exposure to others germs/sicknesses. Believe it or not it is possible to pick-up a bug from other individuals that are sick and using the general pool. Unfortunately individuals often don’t have consideration for others. Spreading sickness to others can be the least of an inconsiderate persons concerns.
- General pools are often places where lots of people watching takes place. A private and or semi-private pool provides an experience with less exposure to others. If you are a shy, modest or self-conscious person, you can enjoy a swim or wade through a pool with less attention.
In conclusion, always Travel With Purpose (TWP). Travel because you enjoy it. Travel to learn. Travel to experience. Travel to become a better person in this world. Become more empathetic. Become more understanding. Become more humble. Become more grateful. Become more appreciative. Become more thankful.
